Lens Guide
Lens Guide
Understand Your Prescription. Choose Your Lenses.
Choosing prescription glasses starts with understanding your prescription and the lens options available. This guide helps you check the details you enter, compare lens designs, materials and treatments, and understand what to consider when choosing lenses for your glasses.
Use the prescription-entry guidance below when uploading or entering your details, and explore the lens sections to learn about Single Vision, Varifocal and Bifocal lenses, lens thicknesses, coatings, photochromic options and sunglass lenses.
If you are unsure about a prescription value, measurement or lens choice, contact info@bannaeyewear.com before ordering. Please do not guess or change values from your prescription.
Explore Our Prescription Lens Range
We offer a comprehensive selection of lens designs, materials, thicknesses, coatings and sun-lens options to suit different prescriptions, visual requirements and preferences.
1. Prescription Lens Designs
Single Vision Lenses
Designed to correct vision at one prescribed focal distance, typically for distance or reading.
Progressive / Varifocal Lenses
Provide a gradual transition between distance, intermediate and near-vision correction without visible dividing lines.
Bifocal Lenses
Provide two distinct viewing zones, usually for distance and near vision.
The most suitable lens design depends on your prescription, visual requirements and frame measurements.
2. Lens Thickness and Materials
We offer a range of lens indices and materials to suit different prescriptions and preferences.
1.50 — Standard: A conventional lens option suitable for many prescriptions.
1.60 — Thin & Light: A thinner alternative to standard-index lenses for suitable prescriptions.
1.67 — Super Thin: A higher-index option that can reduce lens thickness, particularly for stronger prescriptions.
1.74 — Ultra Thin: Our highest listed index, offering further potential thickness reduction for suitable prescriptions.
Polycarbonate Lenses
We also offer polycarbonate lenses, a lightweight, impact-resistant lens material, subject to prescription and suitability.
Higher-index lenses are not automatically the best choice for every prescription. Lens thickness, weight and suitability also depend on prescription strength, frame size, lens shape and fitting requirements.
We aim to help customers choose suitable lenses without unnecessary expense.
3. Lens Coatings and Specialist Treatments
Anti-Reflection Coating
Designed to reduce reflections from lens surfaces, improving lens transparency and appearance.
Blue Light Protection
A filtering option for customers who prefer lenses designed to reduce transmission of specified portions of blue-violet light.
Asahi Gold / Night Drive
A specialist lens treatment option available within our range. Its characteristics and suitability depend on the selected lens specifications.
Available coatings and combinations depend on the lens material, prescription and design.
4. Photochromic and Light-Responsive Lenses
Our photochromic options include:
Photochromic Grey
Light-responsive lenses that darken outdoors under suitable lighting conditions and become clearer indoors.
Photochromic Brown
Provide light-responsive performance with a brown tint when activated.
Transitions XTRActive
An advanced photochromic option designed to provide additional darkening in bright conditions, including some activation behind vehicle windscreens.
Photochromic performance varies depending on lighting conditions, temperature, lens material and the specific product selected.
5. Sunglass Lenses and Tint Options
We offer both prescription and non-prescription sunglass lenses, with a variety of tint options and colours.
Our available choices include:
Solid Tint: A consistent tint across the lens.
Graduated Tint: A tint that gradually changes in intensity from one part of the lens to another.
Fashion Colours: Decorative lens colours for different eyewear styles.
Prescription Sun Tint: Tinted sunglass lenses manufactured to your prescription.
Prescription Polarised Sun Tint: Prescription sun lenses with polarisation designed to reduce glare from certain reflective surfaces.
We also offer suitable non-prescription tinted and polarised sunglass options.
Not every combination of lens design, material, coating or tint is available for every prescription or frame. Our lens chooser shows options and prices, but does not automatically check every prescription restriction. We review your selected options, prescription, measurements and frame suitability before processing and will contact you if clarification or a change is needed. Any additional charge will be agreed with you before proceeding.
Reglaze Your Own Frames
Keep the Frames You Love
If your existing frames are still in good condition, replacing their lenses can be an economical and practical alternative to purchasing completely new glasses.
Our current online reglazing service for customer-owned frames supports Single Vision prescription lenses.
Frames must be suitable for lens removal and fitting. Older, delicate, semi-rimless or rimless frames may require additional assessment.
If you are unsure whether your frames are suitable for reglazing, please contact us before ordering.
How to Order Your Prescription Lenses
Step 1 — Choose Your Frame
Browse our optical frame collections and select an eligible frame.
Open the prescription lens chooser on the product page to explore the available lens designs, materials, thicknesses, coatings and prices.
Step 2 — Upload or Enter Your Prescription
You can upload a copy of your prescription or enter the details manually.
Please check all prescription values and measurements carefully before proceeding, particularly:
SPH (Sphere): Ensure the value and positive (+) or negative (−) sign are correct for each eye.
CYL (Cylinder): If present, enter the correct value and its positive (+) or negative (−) sign.
AXIS: If your prescription includes a CYL value, enter the corresponding Axis value accurately for that eye.
PD (Pupillary Distance): Provide the required PD measurement, including separate right- and left-eye measurements where requested.
ADD (Addition): If you choose Progressive/Varifocal or Bifocal lenses, enter the prescribed ADD value for each eye where applicable.
Additional information: Provide any other prescription details or fitting measurements requested for your selected lenses.
If your prescription includes prism or other specialist requirements, please contact us before ordering to confirm that we can accommodate them.
Incorrect prescription values, signs or measurements can significantly affect the finished glasses.
If you are uncertain about any prescription value or required measurement, please contact us before placing your order.
Step 3 — Choose Your Lens Options
Select the lens design, material, thickness, coating and any additional treatments available for your prescription and selected frame.
Certain prescriptions and lens combinations may require additional measurements or suitability checks.
High-Prescription Lens Charges
Higher CYL (Cylinder) or SPH (Sphere) prescriptions carry an additional lens charge. You must select the relevant high-prescription option in the lens chooser. These bands apply to both positive (+) and negative (−) prescriptions: compare the size of the value, regardless of its sign.
CYL above 4.00 up to and including 6.00.
CYL above 6.00 up to and including 8.00.
CYL above 8.00 up to and including 10.00.
CYL above 10.00.
SPH above 10.00. This applies to values greater than +10.00 or more negative than −10.00, not exactly +10.00 or −10.00.
For example, CYL +6.00 and −6.00 fall within the first band; CYL +6.25 and −6.25 fall within the second band. Exactly +4.00 or −4.00 does not fall within these additional CYL charge bands.
Do not select “No extra charge” if an additional charge applies to your prescription. If you are unsure which option to select, or more than one band or charge appears relevant to your order, please contact us before ordering.
The lens chooser does not automatically enforce every high-prescription restriction. We check your selection before processing and will contact you if a correction is needed. Any additional charge will be agreed with you before proceeding. Selecting a charge option does not by itself confirm that a prescription or lens combination is suitable.
Step 4 — Check and Confirm Your Order
Review your prescription and order details carefully before completing checkout.
Our prescription-ordering system requires customers to confirm that:
Their prescription is accurate and dated within the preceding two years.
They are aged 16 or over.
They are not registered as sight impaired or severely sight impaired.
They have read and agreed to our Terms of Service.
We may request additional information or a copy of the original prescription before processing an order.
Where important information is missing, inconsistent or unsuitable, we may contact you for clarification before proceeding.
